Best Route: Oxford to Gatwick Airport
Two realistic driving routes link Oxford and Gatwick: via the A34 and M4 to the M25, or via the M40 and a longer stretch of the M25. Both run similar time in normal traffic — the choice usually comes down to live conditions on the day.
The Car

Route one: A34 / M4 / M25
This path heads south from Oxford on the A34, joins the M4 eastbound near Newbury or Reading, then picks up the M25 southbound towards Gatwick. It's often the preferred choice since it skips the busiest stretch of the M25 around west London.
Route two: M40 / M25
This path runs the M40 south-east towards London, then joins the M25 and follows it round to the Gatwick spur. It can be quicker at certain times of day but tends to pass a busier section of the M25 near the Heathrow/west London interchange.
